Editing your DNS zone

How to edit your DNS zone through the BRI hosting control pane

Step 1: First you will need to log into your BRI hosting control panel by doing the following:

A.) Open up a web browser and navigate to the following URL: https://www.brihosting.com/cp.

B.) Once here, enter in your username and password that were sent to you by the admin@brihosting.com email address when your hosting package was created and click “Sign In” (the username will be the primary contact email address of the hosting package administrator).

Step 2: Once you are logged into you control panel, click on the “System” tab located on the top right corner of the web page.

Step 3: On the next page, locate the “DNS” link under the “Services” section of the left most column as shown in the screenshot below and click on it.

Step 4: After clicking on the “DNS” link you will be at the DNS zone editing page of your control panel. Here you can turn on DNS hosting (if it wasn’t turned on when the hosting package was set up and you now need it turned on), turn off DNS hosting (if you wish to host your DNS elsewhere), create DNS records and delete DNS records. Simply clicking the “Switch off/on the DNS service” will perform the requested operation. If you wish to create a DNS record, click on the “Add Record” link at the top of the page which is outlined in the screenshot below. If you wish to delete a DNS record, check the box next to the record that you wish to delete and then click on the “Remove Selected” button (outlined in the screenshot below.)

Step 5: Creating a DNS record. Once you have clicked on the “Add Record” button at the top of the page, you will be at the “Add resource record to the zone” page. In here you can choose what type of record you wish to create by choosing the type of record from the “Record type” drop down box. If you need to add an IP address for the record you can enter it into the “Enter IP address” field. If you need to enter a name for a CNAME record you can enter that into the “Enter domain name” field. Once you have configured the DNS record you wish to create click on the “OK” button and the DNS record will be created.

Step 6: Once you have clicked the “OK” button on the previous screen your DNS record will have been created and you will be taken back to the DNS zone editing page. In here you will see your newly created DNS record in the list with all of your other DNS records. That is all that needs to be done. It will take a short time for the DNS change to propagate to the internet.

Step 7: Deleting a DNS record. From the DNS zone editing page shown below, you can locate the DNS record that you wish to delete, check the checkbox corresponding to the record that you wish to delete and then click the “Remove Selected” link directly under “Resource records”. This will take you to a screen which will ask if you to confirm the deletion of the record. Click on the checkbox located next to “Confirm removal” and then click the “OK” button. After this you will be taken back to the DNS zone editing page.

You have successfully created and deleted a DNS record for your domain in the BRI hosting control panel.
